Heretic episode, barely talked about the movie??
I was excited to listen to the Heretic ep with Ross. But they BARELY talked about the film. They could have really leaned into Ross’s knowledge of religion. There is so much to unpack in this film… 100% disappointed. First and last episode I will ever listen to of this pod. I absolutely hate when pods dont talk about the topic they advertise.

Love this podcast love these people
What keeps me coming back to this podcast? Is it Ify’s taste in movies and horniness on main? Is it Alonso’s dedication to Holiday Hallmark movies? Is it Midwest princess Drea’s Minnesotan accent peeping out? Yes! Yes to all! Plus they are insightful and fun and funny people. Love their dynamic. And love that they cover movies that aren’t always the most mainstream. Way to go y’all! Also Ify, I’m loving your part in Never Stop Blowing Up on Drop out. Incredible.

Great recs, and a good time had by all
My to-watch list is longer than when I started listening, but I think the overall quality has gone up due to the recommendations of this program.

    Worst intro ever?
being racist is not good, mmmmmk?

    Lots of blathering
Just get to the point! I don’t need a 75 minute long podcast that only discusses the movie for 1/3 of that time. The rest of the time is spent in self congratulatory chatter and discussion of mildly related movie topics.

It is fun and I do care
I was led here by Drea from Screen Drafts last year. All three hosts are talented and have their own individual strengths. BTW, to improve my #1 podcast, I would like to hear more Screen Drafts appearances by Alonso and Ify. They might not catch up with Drea, but they need to spread themselves thinner for us. 🙂

    Heck yeah!
A breath of fresh air in a world choked to death with white film bro podcasts!

    Like It!
    But seriously how can you have a film podcast and Asteroid City is your first Wes Anderson movie? It really doesn’t compute. I’m a little jealous of the time you have a head… There’s other Film Makers equally important to this century called the Coen Brothers you should check out ;) {PS Life Aquatic}

    Why?
Why mention you aren’t white? What does it matter? Just present your podcast and state what it is. What does it matter if a podcast is all white or black or Indian or Asian? It doesn’t. Just sad. And off putting.

    Sharply entertaining film discussions
I discovered Max Film because I will follow the Christmas Zaddy, Alonso Duralde, wherever he goes. What a delight to also get to know Ify Nwadiwe and Drea Clark as well! Their movie discussions are always fascinating and entertaining from all angles, and you can count on great guests as well. Speaking of movies, if you love them, you need Maximum Film in your life.

    Best Film Podcast
Super fun and informative. Like sitting around talking with the smartest, funniest people you know. Iffy is always a hoot. Alonzo is the numero uno film daddy. Drea is the BFF you always wanted.

    A weekly must
I've been listening to this podcast for a couple years and it's become the best part of my Fridays. The news segments, the movie recommendations, the reviews: all great. But what keeps me around are the 3 hosts. There are a ton of movie review podcasts and if that's all I wanted this would already be a good one, but the chemistry Ify, Drea, and Alonso have with each other makes listening to their discussions so vibrant and filled with sass and banter. They each bring a unique perspective from their jobs in the industry and I love learning about the inside baseball of the business. Also shout out to Marissa for constantly creating fun new games, even if Ify hates them.

Actively look forward to this each week.
I was a fan of Alonso’s other podcasts, and at the end of every Linoleum Knife, this show would get a mention. I checked out a random episode a few months back, and immediately found Ify, Drea and Alonso’s repartee snappy, fun and engaging. You can tell these folks really enjoy each other’s company and each host’s quirks are complimented well. I listen to podcasts during my commute and/or at work, and was very pleased to find an entire back catalog of these episodes to dive into and enjoy. It’s informative, but never feels like a chore. And I think that’s because everyone here seems to be having a really good time with each other. Thank you, MF hosts for keeping this show weekly and for always keeping it a true delight.

    Speaking of Movies...
By far one of the best pods out there that talks about movies. The backgrounds of each host lend to so many great conversations and deep insights. But also doesn’t take it self so seriously that you felt left out and instead part of a group that just loves movies!
  • #TeamAtticWife
    Love These Guys!
Absolutely incredible hosts! Such a wide and fascinating range of criticism, opinions, and ideas! And the guests?! Wow! I have discovered so many cool filmmakers, comedians, and artists from this show! Keep it coming!

    Look No Further
I’ll keep this short and sweet: Maximum Film is the podcast I most look forward to each week. If you’re looking for a movie podcast with *thoughtful* and funny discussions, a welcome lack of pretension, and great recommendations, this is the podcast for you.
  • Brudd3788
    Finally!
Finally a movie podcast for nerds! If you find it entertaining to listen to people who think it is hilarious to reference anything, this is for you.
  • Bemused29
    That one host ...
Longtime listener, back to the April and Ricky days. I don't know how much longer I will be, though, because one of the hosts has increasingly become the kind of movie podcast host this show is supposed to be the antithesis of—smug, condescending, and rude to the co-hosts. So much correcting of others, on matters big and small, and not politely. It's really off-putting.
  • Crow445
    Love this pod!
I don’t have time to watch a lot of movies but I do have time to listen to this podcast. So this is how I decide which movies I need to see. Absolutely loved Paddington 2!!

    Conversations with friends!
As an avid podcast listener with ADHD, I’m always looking for a new show to soothe my brain. Maximum Film! is a wonderful podcast with incredibly thoughtful cast members that genuinely consider all movies, from SpongeBob to Moonlight. The hosts and guests know so much about movies, the film world, and REPRESENTATION, three of my favorite topics. Every episode feels like a discussion with old friends. Thank you Ify, Drea, Alonso, Casey, and all contributors past and future!

This is the bee’s knees, y’all.
All the way from Texas, how could I send more love than a five star review - that is SO WELL EARNED. From Ricky Carmona to now, the cast may change but you will always find sweet voices laying down insights and humor. I feel like a Dickensian orphan with my Jewish face pressed to the windows in this metaphor, staring in at Alonzo’s genuine love for Christmas movies. Every single person involved in this show is a delight, and discuss movies I didn’t even know I needed to see and support. Drea, your chuckle is peachy keen, jelly bean. Check out Who Shot Ya, you really won’t regret it for an instant. YES, the previous episodes, too! Update: Ify is with the cast now, and also such a dang delight! Sweeter than tea - and is there anything to love more in this world than an earnest nerd?

    Title
Pretty sure I left a review before but just in case. Three of my absolute favorite people to listen talk about movies. Always insightful, warm, funny, and …… horny. It’s a great mix. Plus they always have great movie recommendations. The producer and the guests they bring on ain’t too shabby either. Give it a whirl!
  • Photoberd
    I gave it a try.
Not to be unkind, but I really can’t bear the word like being overused. This is a shame since the content is interesting.

    Best Film Podcast
I already loved you guys, and I’m so happy to hear the Cruella love. I’m not a Disney guy, at all. But this film was spectacular! Sat through it with a big smile on my face. Great guests too. You’re my favorite film podcast, thanks!

    GREAT HOSTS, GREAT VIBE
I really dig the diverse and dynamic hosts on the show, each with a unique point of view to offer, and you can tell they have fun each week.

    Absolutely Fantastic Show!
A stupendous podcast with, just the right balance between comedy and criticism. All of the hosts feel like fantastic new roommates and Switchblade Sisters moved out and after the Judas and the black messiah episode I was sold.

Smart People Making A Very Good Show
Love these guys! The hosts are kind people with interesting perspectives and opinions who aren’t afraid to disagree with each other. Anyone who is interested in progressive modern film critique/analysis should give them a listen!

    Happy New Listener
I found this podcast a few months ago and now it’s a must-listen for me! I think what sets it apart are how different the hosts are. They have different backgrounds and tastes and that means the perspectives are always interesting and it doesn’t feel like movies reviewed in an echo chamber. I also loooove a movie podcast that doesn’t get too pretentious. Y’all tease him all you want but the fact that Ify put Sonic in his top 10 for last year is one of the reasons I’m so hooked. That and you have the best Christmas Zaddy in the world. I’d listen to that 60 second download as its own podcast! Love you guys! Keep up the great work!
  • Mxsandy12
    A must listen!
These guys are movie ninjas and I adored every movement I listened. They give you the full spectrum of the cultural landscape as well as informed movie opinions. And the banter is fantastic, it feels like I’m there with them. A must listen!

    Get shot!!!
The absolute best movie podcast! Drea is hilarious and insightful and genius at getting to the heart of a film’s spirit. The other hosts are wonderful too! From the reviews to the deep dives to the regular segments the podcast is funny and informative and entertaining. It zips by. Do yourself a favor and get shot!
  • Kamau927
    My new favorite film podcast
I initially discovered this podcast through Ify after his podcast Nerdificent ended and I was looking for something to replace it. Alonzo “The Christmas Zaddy” and his wealth of film knowledge is always a delight. I trust Drea’s opinion on any film. And Ify’s always Ify. You guys reviewed one of my favorite movie series of all time “The Before Trilogy” and then you guys blew my mind by having Richard Linklater on. This show has become one of the best parts of my week. I usually listen when I’m studying and you guys have all introduced me to some great movies this year. I listened to the Happiest Season episode twice because I had to listen again after watching it was such a good episode.

    Drea Stan Post!!!
Just finished the Mank episode and I am so freaking pleased. I subscribe to a bunch of film podcasts and have mostly been listening to other critics are so annoyingly taken with the “let’s enable the drunken genius” archetype. I just needed one other person to express my disgust with that initial writers room and pitch scene and I got it. Thank you Drea! Also shouts to Ben because I liked The Cats Meow so much more than Mank and want more people to see it!!

we horny for this one boys
i don’t really like movies, but i do love drea, alonso, and ify. one of my favorite weekly listens

Downloaded Apple Podcast just to review
I have loved this podcast for over a year and have really enjoyed the pandemic twist of reviewing some of the best of the past. Hot Fuzz’s episode was so good! Had one of the best guests (all are great). Brought me back to being deported from England on arrival, and after being processed I was put into a common holding cell where they were actually playing Hot Fuzz and thought I was being pranked by the Queen herself. Then every time they offered me a cup of tea from the PG Tips machine I saw the cup fall and the tea being poured in quick cuts and ultra dramatic zoom. Thanks for your beautiful takes on the movies I love. Makes me love them even more. Love you guys as a group and as individuals. Can’t wait for more. Thank you for what you do.

    Great podcast
This is one of my favorite movie podcasts. The hosts are all very personable and feed off each other’s ideas in an enjoyable and organic way.

    Life Saving Efforts
I’m a delivery driver and a major cinephile, and this show has come to mean so much to me on my drives. I get endless edification and enjoyment out of listening to backlogs of this show. Ify, Alonso, Drea, and the late, great Ricky and April (in addition to guest hosts, of whom Inkoo Kang is an undeniable fav) breathe life and joy into my workday with their educated takes, flawless recommendations, and diverse, engaging rapport. This show is a must-listen to anyone who enjoys movies, witty banter, and quality content. In short, WHO SHOT YA? is always “what’s good” for me!
  • jillybeanlynn
    Enjoyable listen
I love the joy and good-humored bickering of the show. Ify’s such a delight with his excitement, humor, and opinions. He along with April, Drea, and Alonso have such an enjoyable rapport that I greatly enjoy listening even if I disagree. The only thing I would skip, because it’s annoying, is the pretentious negativity of some of the guests like Inkoo Kang. Such a joyless drag. At the other side of the spectrum - please have Baron Vaughn and Brandon Johnson on the show as much as possible. Definitely subscribe to this!

Not the podcast we deserve, the podcast we need
The quarantine equivalent of coming home after a long day at work is turning on Who Shot Ya on Friday afternoons at the end of my work-from-home-week. That’s when my buddies Ife, Drea, Alonso, thoughtfully-selected guest, and Casey on the 1s and 2s welcome me with their humor, warmth, and cinema insight. I’m about to move abroad (in a pandemic!) and Im already counting on this podcast will ground me and cure my homesickness. I’ll be clinging to this hour once a week for dear life! For god’s sake, please keep recording!! If you leave the light on, I’ll leave the light on, Who Shot Ya. Shoutout to my real life friend “other” Casey who introduced me to this podcast. (Who’s surely listening - hi! Love you!)

Even when I disagree, I love to listen!
Just got through listening to the Mulan episode and spent a lot of it shaking my head and disagreeing with a lot of their opinions of the film, given that I personally found the camera cuts to be a headache, the changes to be an eyesore, and the fact that the production leads were all white (the lead costume designer even admitted that she did most of her research at a museum), and it’s my opinion after listening to historians and Chinese/Chinese-Americans air their grievances that it’s an objectively bad movie....... but, despite how I feel, and the surprise I had listening to the episode, I didn’t once feel like I wanted to stop listening, because you guys are ALWAYS a delight to listen to, and even when I disagree, I always find your opinions to be insightful and interesting to hear out. Thanks for always being there to challenge opinions! PS; shoutout to Nancy for her shoutout of Devs. That show is seriously awesome. Love you guys! -Aurelia (uh-rel-ee-ah)

I kept avoiding subscribing to Who Shot Ya? despite loving their Max Fun bonus content because I hate movie spoilers but Ify, Alonso,

    I frackin' love this podcast
I love how Ify, Alonso, and Drea love movies. Because I do too! As a 60-year-old white guy, I enjoy how these youngsters (that includes you, Alonso) bring different perspectives to the movies they discuss. And they genuinely enjoy their time together in the boof. For those of us for who truly, deeply love movies (I went to see Sorcerer when the other teens were going to Star Wars), this podcast is a treat. I can't imagine a Friday afternoon without it. Thanks y'all. Stay well.

Great balance of silly and serious
This podcast threads the needle perfectly between recommending arty cinema like Portrait of a Lady on Fire and only watching Space Jam for the rest of my life. I love the enthusiasm that the hosts bring and that they don’t look down their noses at movies that are just fun and not artsy. And that they bring a wide variety of perspectives to their analysis, commenting not just on film as film but film as a part of culture. Also it keeps me laughing! Love, Another Drea On Fire
  • mmmmmack.
the perfect podcast for a budding film major
As a young black queer kid, this is the perfect podcast as an introduction into capital F Film and film criticism. Even if you aren’t black, queer, or young, you’re sure to enjoy it as well! Ify’s nerdiness makes me feel validated in my own, Drea’s love of A Portrait Of A Lady On Fire helped me to discover a new genre of media: the lesbian period piece. And what is there not to love about Alonso? Seriously, I don’t know one thing I don’t love about him. The panel is always interesting and diverse and super informative! Shoutouts to past hosts April and Ricky as well! Anyone who enjoys movies has to listen to this podcast as a necessity. No cis, straight dudebros allowed.
  • Midas Welby DDS
    Check it out.
Ridiculous? Check. Sublime? Check. Funny? Check and Mate. The regulars delight, and the guests - from the ebullient Nicole Byer to the splenetic Inkoo Kang - bring joy into my Sapce-Age Quarantine Shelter every week.

    5 stars!
This is a 5 star podcast with three 5 star hosts. Love the breadth of perspective that Ify, Drea, and Alonso bring to the show. Who Shot Ya is a bright spot in my week.
  • jeslikesyou
    ITIDIC? Yep!
Just started listening during quarantine and Ify, Drea and Alonso are all so fun to listen to! They're all smart and funny of course, but their conversations are also always full of kindness and excitement. They're not cynical or too cool for anything, and I love that. And most importantly, their Fast Cast series not only ranked all the Fast & Furious movies, but (correctly!!) ranked all the F&F songs, so I'm basically a fan for life.
  • jakey727
    Just the best
Is there a better movie chat show out there? Don’t think so. Icy, Drea, and Alonso (and their rotating panel of guests) bring the knowledge every week without even a whiff of snobbery — no small task. They’ve got great taste and a great dynamic. If you’re a fan of Filmspotting, Pop Culture Happy Hour, The Big Picture, or Slate Gabfest you MUST give this crew a listen. They’re the tops.
