RCSgambatiCompassion and healing for yourself and others1000% recommend listening if… -- You experienced early developmental trauma and would like to better understand how those first very difficult years of life have impacted your long-term sense of self and perception of the world. -- You're a parent (or teacher, counselor, coach, mental health professional, etc.) and want to learn to respond to your own child(ren)'s needs with more understanding, empathy, and patience. -- You feel overwhelmed by all the demands of parenting and cannot understand how anyone – let alone how YOU – could possibly do all the things AND still be the emotionally present and attuned parent your child needs. -- You need help translating the theory of distress tolerance to a practical means of healing. In other words, you understand that certain stimuli can evoke automatic physiological responses and that these responses are so inextricably tied to cognitive beliefs and associated behaviors that-when the initial stimulus arises- you feel completely out of control of how you respond. Never before had I been able to identify my own specific triggers, physical sensations, and automatic thoughts that occur in the split second preceding my most self-destructive impulses.... that is, until I found this podcast. Listening to and learning from Robyn is the first and only thing that's helped me begin to untangle my massive, matted mental web of self-protective turned self-destructive patterns. I'd give her 5 stars just for that. BUT, the most special thing about Robin's work and the thing that really motivated me to write this review is the sense of EMPOWERMENT I now feel to offer that same compassionate guidance, that same gentle curiosity and desire to understand, to my own children and to the hundreds of high schoolers I teach. THANK YOU ROBYN GOBBEL!! 💙💚🧡

brilliantblue241Interesting information but poor presentationTo be fair of only listen to one episode of this show- episode 165 - but I found it more annoying than informative. Since I didn’t start at the beginning, there was some terminology to pick up on, but that proved easy enough. And some of the information struck me as true to my situation or my family situation, but following along was tedious due to two main factors. Number one, if this was an essay instead of a podcast. It was a good draft, but needed to be tightened up with some extra extra extraneous talking removed. She spends a lot of time referencing other episodes or resources that she has available. Then there’s the commercials for her own services interrupting the podcast somewhat arbitrarily. And then there’s actual podcast time spent directing you to her website or to join a club. It was a bit reminiscent of ad experience of playing words with friends. I guess if you just wanna feel like you’re talking with someone that gets it - or listening to them talk - then maybe it’s a value to you, but if you want helpful information that’s easy to follow then there are likely more succinct Podcasts that will reward you better for your time.

blhblahSo helpful, so inclusiveI felt so much better after listening to this podcast. I felt so much less alone in having a neurodivergent child and it also helped me let go of some underlying shame I didn’t even realize I was carrying. I love how Robyn discusses the owl vs possum brain

Charis Your LifeHelpful!I’m a coach and wanted to learn more about low demand parenting in order to help my clients with kids - really appreciated ep 142. Thank you!

PB_47Informative content but intro is way too longI read the book which is good and I wanted to supplement my knowledge with this podcast. Although the content is informative, the intro often lasts for more than nine minutes! Then the episode is interrupted for another “informercial” of sorts. My suggestions are to keep the introduction pithy and direct listeners to the website for more information and eliminate the ad in the midst of the episodes.

AtlanticGypsyThank you! This podcast, as well as the book “Raising Kids With Big Baffling Behaviors” has saved our family! That is not an exaggeration. We view parenting in a whole new way and we’re much better at supporting our son who has a sensitive nervous system and definitely displays big baffling behaviors. We are so grateful!

TdbwwjdDon’t Miss This!!We adopted our 5 year old daughter a year ago from overseas. This podcast (and Robyn’s book!) have been an invaluable resource to me and our family as we learn how to better navigate her difficult behaviors. I cannot recommend enough!!

AnxiousTiggerEverything makes senseRobyn does an amazing job of presenting information in digestible pieces. Many of her episodes have shifted how I view the world, but in a way that aligns with truth. Recognizing that ‘bad behavior’ is really a child expressing feeling unsafe is a Game Changer!! Her scaffolding recommendations are so helpful, ‘what does my child need for their success to be inevitable?’ Thank you Robyn!!

ACG103Awesome informationThis is an invaluable resource for information. The opening song is really auditory hard though. Oouf.

tiredmommyof5It’s like a hug when things are just SO hardI can’t recommend this podcast enough for parents, caregivers and professionals that work with, live with and care for incredible individuals but have some challenging behaviors. Turning this on when things are hard is like getting a hug straight from Robyn that’s full of compassion and understanding. And like I’m being heard and my feelings are completely valid. Thanks for all you do Robyn!

Txagkpat03Episode 80 is such a great introductionAs a foster adoptive mom, episode 80 is gold. Robyn covers so much about the power of vulnerability, self-compassion and how to reframe rupture and repair. So GOOD!

M&M1111Excellent podcast for parents dealing with early trauma kidsI’ve learned so many practical strategies for improving my relationship with my adopted teen son. The easy-to-understand neuroscience component of this podcast helps me build compassion for my son, even when he demonstrates disappointing behaviors.
-

Rachel S RiosRobyn is just the bestRobyn is the most down to earth, incredibly smart and knowledgeable, and emotionally supportive expert on kids who are struggling the most and deserve the best care we can give them. She has integrated so many approaches, interventions, and models and has tremendous insight and passion. As a school based clinical social worker for the last 10 years, working with kids with a wide range of baffling behaviors, it’s hard for me to really put into words how deeply grateful I am for someone who embodies so much helpful knowledge and emotional presence to showing up for these amazing kids. If I had to choose one expert/trainer who has contributed the most to my growth as a therapist and a human, it would be Robyn. She’s simply a gem of a person and I’m beyond thrilled she has chosen to dedicate herself to supporting caregivers in their care of our kids.
-
Jkwat25The best!I have an adopted 14 year old. Life has been really really hard as we have walked (sometimes crawled) through this journey of adoption. Robyn has taught on every behavior that my son has displayed as if she lived in my home. She understands these kids and why they do what they do. I can’t wait for her book to come out! This road is long and hard. I need all the resources I can get in order to help my son.
-
JovmendoGrief in parentingJust began listening after our therapist recommended this podcast. I’m so glad she did! I’m enjoying Robyn’s insight and empathy for those of us that have children with vulnerable nervous systems. I hadn’t realized how much grief I was carrying and how it in turn affected my child. Looking forward to continue learning more and how I can help the both of us w/ the right tools.

EDirkseParenting After TraumaThis is a great resource for parents and professionals who work with children!

I-love-teaching!Wish I had found it sooner! This podcast has helped me understand my five year old adopted son more than any other resource! I cringe as I look back at my attempts to follow the guidance of other parenting books. The strategies just didn’t work. I ended up feeling like a bad parent and I inadvertently made my sweet boy feel bad because he couldn’t meet my behavior expectations. Robyn’s advice to “be curious” when he is having a hard time has made a huge difference.
-
AHallStaggThe absolute best resource I’ve found for parenting my kids from traumaHands down. Has changed everything for the better for my kids and for me.
-
MdiggityI’m not alone!!My own therapist recommended Robyn as a resource since we have a kiddo who was adopted in our home. I no longer feel alone in this now 10+ year journey. Robyn’s knowledge of the neurobiological and the psychological is unsurpassed in my opinion. She offers the physiological reasons behind behavior, while holding compassion for the human caught in the middle. She presents the latest research in this area, which is ever-evolving. Robyn shows great compassion for the caregiver, which is any adult trying to take care of a kiddo from a hard place. Teachers, foster parents, grandparents, anyone.

JessBetzInvaluable Resource! So informative, yet understandable! Thank you for sharing your knowledge with us, Robyn! Forever grateful, xo

MsikesMost helpful resource yetI’ve found this podcast to be one of the most helpful resources I’ve yet come across in parenting kids with trauma. I’ve learned so much and even better than learning—I’ve felt seen and validated in struggles that sometimes create a sense of loneliness or confusion.

msnarcy3Like turning on a light in a dark room.As a parent (and a professional who works with youth), this podcast completely changed my perspective on behavior and my role as an adult. Before, I was just trying everything I knew, reading everything I could, and hoping for the best. Robyn’s research-based (but in layman’s terms) podcasts are giving me: (1) a better understanding of the brain and (2) the tools I need to “see” and respond with intention and empathy. So grateful for this resource.

LisaW19Honoring parentsAs a trauma momma, I’m incredibly thankful to have found Robyn’s podcast and programs. Most trauma informed training appropriately focuses on the kids. I’m incredibly grateful to find a resource that equally (if not more) honors, supports and “sees” the adults involved in the healing process. Thank you Robyn!
-
Meeko1620A must listenAs a county social worker Robyn’s podcasts are so wonderful. They are great for every parent/person that interacts with others (really all of this information can be applied to our interactions with adults and children, always look to connect!)

DartbeanChanging my family ❤️I highly recommend this podcast to anyone working with children who’ve experienced trauma. I’ve suggested it to all my friends who are foster or adoptive parents. Truly any parent would benefit from Robyn’s voice in their ear. It will help you parent your children from a place of seeing their true needs, as well as provide you with tools for self-compassion (so necessary for this hard work!).
