Baba hotelCoS reviewThe DM does a great job running a rules as written game. His understanding of the roles, descriptions, and ability to tell a story are superb. They are heavily into the role playing, which is great, but can make every little choice take forever. I love that they have fears, but it gets a little silly with every single one of them being overly fearful all the time. It’s a great listen but one of the characters is unintentionally patronizing and condescending. An Elf bard that talks in a folksy way while also taking down to people make it hard to listen to. Overall, it’s great! Just wish I could have AI remove the one character. I’m sure the player is a great person and maybe I just don’t get their character or maybe it is intentional. Idk.

LucasGrillosSlow Burn, but all too enticingThis group is not at all reticent to have long, in-depth in-character moments. Lengthy conversations or monologues about their past and present, fiery arguments that flare up in tense moments, and soft, quiet moments where characters connect. 6/5 roleplaying, in such a way that the plot is character-driven more than anything. The GM also does a fantastic job at getting into character for his NPCs as well.

Pren79Best Storytelling/Roleplaying Game PodcastTwice Bitten CoS is a master class of not only how to run and play a tabletop roleplaying game but also podcast storytelling. The expertly produced podcast is so immersive and riveting, I sometimes forget that it’s just a group of people playing a game live. If you play TTRPG, you will find yourself listening and re-listening, savoring and learning from many moments. If you don’t, the podcast will still be vastly entertaining, taking you on a journey to a dark fantasy world, where you’ll find yourself laughing and crying, and experiencing a full spectrum of emotions with the characters.

jamesthejooNot a bad show, but...A fantastic delve into a classic setting. Though one of the players’ characters is somewhat patronizing and hard to listen to given their habits of speech. They have a somewhat, “Smarter then thou,” or “holier then thou,” with a pretentious Elven attitude. Sometimes it makes it difficult to listen to, but I guess it’s what the character would do?” Aside from that a superb podcast.

Nael SimmerhornGreat StuffDragnaCarta’s DMing of this is superb, and the cast is great fun. They do the source justice, to be sure. The best AP use of Strahd himself. If you want to see CoS as written played by DMs and/or heavy role players, this is it. The best version of “normal (non heroic) people in Barovia” ever.

EedlebopFinally, the playthrough worthy of Strahd himself! When a team of dungeonmasters convenes to explore this player-favorite module in a rules-as-written playthrough, you know the affair’s going to function at a higher level than typical hokey Let’s Play podcasts. This is a listen you get to enjoy without the cash-in trappings of sponsorships, merch flogging, virtue signaling, or the cast exploiting the platform for a bit of fame. There’s none of that as far as I’ve listened so far—just high-skill players treating the material with respect and bringing excellence with each episode. Other D&D podcasts are fun because they inject a bunch of lampooning or celebrity into the session. I love Twice Bitten because they’re eschewing all that to focus on a better-run story that takes itself seriously without navel gazing/grinding into a solipsistic halt. u/DragnaCarta, the DM, keeps things moving forward but gives the cast enough leeway to let the players claw their way through the fear —> dread —> horror cycles naturally. The players are all top-tier narrativists and clearly as skilled as their DM in breathing life into imagined people. It adds so much sense of consequence to all the calamity the party blunders into and tries to persevere through. The characters (NPC and PC alike) come across as well-realized individuals instead of sly celebrity or meta winks to the audience. Thank the Dark Powers for that! Finally! A playthrough where the focus is solid storytelling instead of building cast members’ influence and followers. The production value is exactly that. Professional art portraits supersede players’ cam feeds and the background audio is enough without distracting. Here again we get to focus on the diegetic, and it is a rich long-form feast in a world of fast food media. A blood pudding in a world of sugary snacks, if you will. There are many other D&D podcasts probably worth a listen. This is one of the few definitely worth it. Thank you to the cast and crew for bringing us into the dreary, deadly, occasionally darkly humorous valley of Barovia. To my fellow listeners, stop by r/CurseOfStrahd to explore the community the podcast sprung forth from. You won’t regret that deep dive either.
