The most perfectly imperfect band ever! - 6 guys (and a 70’s Donna) locking together cosmically with their instruments. LOVE !!!

As a head who never got to see Jerry, it is astonishing how the GOGDC connects its listeners to the rich and kaleidoscopic history of arguably the greatest rock and roll band to have ever put tune to ear. When I listen to an episode, it pulls me into the scene of the day or time period being featured and does so from multiple angles of perspective. A listener feels like they are there, in the action, as it was happening. The work which Jesse Jarnow and Rich Mahan put in, along with all of the fantastic interviews and commentary from David Lemieux and others, brings the Dead to life in a truly unique, thoughtful and engaging way such that even those of us who were unable to partake of that epic 30 year trip can vicariously feel as though we were a part of the long strangeness of it all. From this head, I can truly say, I’m so very grateful for this. RIP Steve Silberman, your commentary brought so much joy to the post-Jerry generations of Deadheads.

Please cover the 60s! Come on we’re heading into 60th anniversary territory. This is sooo good as one would expect from the official Dead camp! Covering these 2 gems of albums is an awesome way to start. They’ve done quite a trick here by including lots of info and insights that are either really obscure or previously not revealed. So much of the Dead’s story has been rehashed so many times but here they actually add new details and present it in such a way as to be essential listening whether you’re a fan or a newb. I’m hoping they’ll go back in time to cover the 60s but also look forward to other periods they might explore. Long may you run folks!

The best podcast I subscribe to…it has been the foundation for the growth of my love for all things Grateful Dead and Jam Band! It is my go to podcast for my long runs, I just wish I had more. As my knowledge has grown I am definitely tempted to go back and select episodes that I may have a better understanding of now. I could go on and on, but I leave it with a simple THANK YOU!

The hated of Disco was not race or gay based. It was terrible music forced on the public. It sucked then and didn’t age well. I was there.

In my 55th year of listening to and following this Amazing band, I’m finding more and more new information from this equally Amazing podcast. In speaking with Jesse I found a soul with a deep commitment and insight to bring out the best of everything. Thank you to the entire production for what you all do!

It’s the best. As a young dead head I didn’t get to go to shows, and have only been to 3 dead and Co shows. This allows me to love this band to such a deeper level and understand everything so much more.

In the realm of music podcasts this is the best I’ve found. Every episode is thoroughly informative and — best of all — so professionally presented. That’s my gripe with so many other podcasts, the presentation. This one never lets me down. The production and hosting is spot on.

Of course the G.O.G.D. is the best podcast out there. This season has been awesome with the Pigpen shows and I loved the T.C. show as well. Hearing all the inside about ‘Live Dead’, the album I’ve listened to the most in my life, was incredible. Keep it up Rich and Jesse.

GOGDP is thoroughly enjoyable, entertaining and educational! Simply no band (or brand!) that nurtures its legacy like the Grateful Dead. Every season is researched and curated and well captures the rich history and impact of the Dead. Keep mining!

This is the best historical documentary ever made in my opinion. Extensive and caring. I feel lucky to be a fan.

Makes that 5-hour documentary seem superficial. Whenever there’s a new one I prioritize it, savor it, just freaking love it. Have learned so much about a band I thought I knew way too much about already. Love the deep digressions and, well, just about everything. Jesse deserves an ethnomusicology award for sure. And when it’s all done and dusted these transmissions will be consider GD gold for generations.

You guys already know what a huge fan I am. This is simply the best Grateful Dead journalism ever! What an amazing wealth you have amassed! Hats off for making this work. It cannot be easy. Love the end of season one where you had Jerry’s folk route. And the focus on Donna Jean was great. Also Pigpen… I am personally yearning for an appreciation of Phil Lesh’s, especially. also Bob weir, for the love of God, what an influence those guys are on, so many. (Guitar Player 10/78 Garcia interview talks of guitar conversations btw Jerry & Bob… the dude was fluent- and tone so thick prior to hiatus)… Especially with Phil, what an amazing background. And unique contribution to the musical lexicon with SUCH an ear to the weird. And his tone is my favorite thing about all music, ever; per Playin in the Band on the 1st live album. No better sound ever. Who did that and what did they do? I say this knowing, whatever you come up with, will be the best but I tip my hat to a series of focus pieces on all the individual band members. Ever since the first time I was up close in 81, I have always felt that when the Grateful Dead take the stage, I am in the presence of titans. It is the deepest awe I have ever felt! Feeling was only amplified when, after having experienced Ua few concerts up close at Shoreline, the amazing clarity of their sound, as well as the incredible power, a route to the exit at the forum in LA in the early 90s went along a rail just along all the massive PA gear. All so neatly and perfectly organized, and unique and custom/obviously smart ways, the machinery of that sound. It was incredible to see. Can’t wait for next seasons. Thursdays are so awesome when you’re on!

I have recently returned to regular listening of the Dead after having been off them for a while. Between the ReListen app or Archive.org, the the hundreds of “official (though in some cases expensive) live releases, and now this podcast, it’s a great time to be a Deadhead because you can get your fill and then some.

This podcast is a warm comfort blanket of American music knowledge on The Grateful Dead and everything that spiderwebs out from them. The production is wonderful and they really do a brilliant job on fact and lore surrounding this band. A rabbit hole of information that isn’t overwhelming nor boring. This podcast is everything. I have been waiting all my adult life for this podcast. A thoughtful and deep dive into the world of the grateful dead. Not just how many times a song was played or the deification of Jerry but the back story to everything . Wow I am so impressed. Every episode is better than the last. Thank you for your hard work. The historical notes and integration across so many threads is simply amazing. I wish you would do this for each and every album in the Dead’s extended discography. I never want these to end!! My first Dead show Wake of the flood 1973 Philadelphia 50 years and it’s all clear how prophetic Relative and poignant the DEAD were then and just as much Now! 90 to 95% of the podcasts are 5+ with fascinating details about the dead and their history and culture. However, there are some podcasts which seem fairly focused on just promoting an album release, and these episodes are challenging to listen to even as someone who is fascinated with this group. Both in the case of the St. Louis release last year and now, with a current Iowa episode, they devote way too much time to promoters droning on about minutia and arcana that I would be surprised more than 1% of the audience have any interest in.

This has been a revelation. Direct, concise, informative, and a pleasure. Thank you for bringing this information to light!

This Podcast is excellent. For someone who got into the Dead later in life it has provided me with insight and first hand knowledge of what it was like during the hay-day of the band. Having never been to one of their concerts I feel like I was there at one. I am binge listening to catch up to the current season which I’ve already listened to. I can’t get enough of it. Excellent job on the podcast.
